MILAN (AP) — Finland showed plenty of fight in reviving its Olympic campaign. Joel Armia scored a short-handed goal and the Finns outmuscled archrival Sweden in a 4-1 group-stage victory Friday — 20 years after the sides squared off in the gold medal game at the Turin Games.

After shutting out its Olympic rival, the U.S. women’s ice hockey team now has to defeat its Olympic host.

There are four games on the men’s hockey schedule on Friday, Feb. 13 at the 2026 Winter Olympics, including a meeting of rivals Finland and Sweden.

Finland won decisively over Sweden by a 4-1 score, getting offensive contributions from throughout the lineup.

Juuse Saros made 34 saves for Finland (1-0-1-0), and Nikolas Mantipalo, Anton Lundell, Joel Armia and Mikko Rantanen scored.

Finland have dismissed national ski jumping head coach Igor Medved from the Winter Olympics after team officials determined the Slovenian had breached internal regulations following an alcohol-related incident during the Games.

The principal of Abington Senior High School in Montgomery County has been placed on administrative leave following allegations of inappropriate social media posts.

“I made a mistake and I am very sorry,” he said in a statement. “I want to apologize to the entire Finnish team, the athletes and also the fans.”
